I would like everyone to know that I was once an employee of Southern Hills. I can honestly say that this company is not what you think it is. I have thought about how I could let everyone know what a dishonest company Southern Hills is and I am guessing this will be the only way. I would like to first say the animals are not the doctors main priority, money is. While I could go on about that here's the second fact -there are untrained employees doing work on YOUR animals... scary. The third fact is while the buisness is dishonest so is Dr. Mary Thorton. She does not believe in patient confidentiality or show the respect I feel a doctor should show towards the patients. I have watched her walk out of rooms and talk about clients in a way I could never believe. I feel this practice is a joke, and having a dog myself I would NEVER trust this place. I hope this will help in your decision on who to trust with your loved ones.

We started bringing our boxer to S. Hills in November, 2006. She was drinking A LOT of water and was peeing way more than normal. They proceeded to do a series of tests and diagnosed her with Thyroid Disease, placed her on medication and requested a follow-up in a month. The next SIX months consisted of an Urinalysis and Thyroid Pannel (blookwork) once a month. Each month the dosage on her meds were adjusted in hopes to regulate her thyroid. We payed for each visit, in addition to her perscriptions that weren't doing a thing. We payed Southern Hills over $3,000.00 in vet bills for our BOXER ONLY! (We payed $2,000.00 for our 10 yr. old English B.Dog's surgery that died 2 months after recovering. After getting a 2nd opionion on this by 3 different doctors, ALL said they would have NEVER performed this surgery on a dog in her shape.) After six months of the SAME thing with Southern Hills, we finally decided to get a second opinion. We took our boxer to Brambleton Vet and within a 24 hour testing, Dr. Linda Jennings discovered she was diabetic. 6 months of treatment and nothing and Dr. Jennings figured it out in 24 hours!! Within a week, our boxer was back to her old self. Our boxer suffered 6 months of discomfort, because no one at Southern Hill would take my concerns serious enough to do different tests. And I trusted him that he knew what he was doing. They NEVER waved any of the office fees either, regardless of how often we were coming in and it always had to be paid in full at the time of the service. They also switched medicines on us - filled our boxer's medicine with our B.Dog's and visa versa!! Come to find out, it was the 'receptionist' that filled the medicines which she was not licensed to do! To top it off...they made us pay for the refills! No lie! DO NOT take your pets to them. They are overpriced, unorganized and their passion is not to meet the best interest of their clients. In my personal opinion, it's about the money only!

I have used this kennel three times. Each time there has been an issue of some kind. Every time that I have gone, I have waited for them to bring my pet out for over 10 minutes. 2 out of the 3 times, they have lost items (leash and blanket). The blanket should have been in the kennel with my dog. It must not have been. I leave instructions to have my dog given a bedtime treat each night. I even bring her treats in with me. When I pick her up, the treats are all still in the bag. The first time I took her in there, they didnt tell me that their vet had to do a physical on her. They charged me an extra $40 for this service that I didnt know I was getting. When I asked for a report of what the vet assessed, they couldnt provide me with it, They just said my dog checked out ok. I did provide them with all shot records and visit info from her regular vet prior to taking her in) The cost is cheap, but so is your service. The other 2 times that her blanket wasnt lost, it came back to me soiled where they didnt take her out often enough to void. She NEVER does this at her new kennel. On the last visit, I requested that she have a bath prior to picking her up. I got there at 10:45am. (Check out is by 11am if you dont want to pay for another day). Her bath had not been done yet, they wanted me to go do something else and come back to pick her up in about 25-30 minutes. When I did so, they wanted to charge me for the extra day since I hadnt picked her up before 11am. I refused to pay the additional days charge. The manager had to come and take it off of the bill. Each time I get my dog home, she is exhaused and sleeps for the rest of the day. She doesn't get good rest there. Like I said, my dog has a new kennel. Aspen Grove is more expensive, but well worth it.
