The History Museum of Western Virginia chronicles the history of the human race in the Roanoke Valley, moving from the primitive peoples of 10,000 years ago to the glorious era of Native Americans, to the arrival of European settlers. Artifacts include arrowheads and pottery, antique surgical implements, and bullet molds from the Civil War. A fixture of the Center in the Square cultural center, the museum's 16,000-square-foot building lies in the heart of the city.
